Using alt memory sots on P5E instead of Primary

Hello I'm building a new system and I have a problem.

I'm using the Asus P5E mobo and Corsair Dominator PC 8500 memory
I use the ThermalRight 120 eXtreme as CPU cooling.

Now the CPU cooling partly covers the first DDR slot on my mobo and the corsair modules are too high so they come in contact with the CPU cooler.
I was wondering if it is possible to leave the primary DDR slots empty and only use the secondary slots (the black ones).

And yes I will be overclocking in the near future.

Please help me out! Many thanks

Yes, you'll be fine.

If Slot 1 is blocked, then use Slots 2 & 4.
Provided you'll only be using 2 sticks at any time, you'll be fine.

It will work fine in slots 2 and 4. If you're lucky, and it's like my P5K, slots 2 and 4 actually offer better performance and stability.

My P5N-E SLI won't stabilize with my new OCZ 2GB kit in the yellow (primary) slots, but runs perfectly at 4-4-4-12-1T in the black (secondary) slots. The Buffalo Firestix 1GB kit I replaced was fine in the yellow. Which slots work best on your board for your RAM seems to be a crap shoot.
