Using AIW in europe?

Hi all,

I am in europe (Ireland to be exact) right now. I've got a Radeon AIW 8500DV which was purchased in the states. The question is: I can't seem to get the TV-in to function. I started up the TV program and the initialization wizard lead me to tune to the signal. But there is not a single european country in the list and I can't seem to get the tuner to tune to signal at all.

Could someone tell me if it is possible to do what I am doing or is there fundemental difference between the North American card and european card?

Thanks very much for any input.

you might have to change the video card bios to pal instead of ntsc

check out the rage3d forums, they know

You are not doing anything wrong. The television signals used in the USA called NTSC is different than the signal used by the BBC and Europe called PAL. Purchases in the USA are designed for NTSC.

You can use Radedit to change the bios and then flash it.

Thanks for the link. That looks greate. However, I got reply from ATI support team saying:

ATI TV Tuners cards are specifically configured to operate in the regions where they will be sold. Each of our TV Tuner products is designed to support a specific broadcast standard. We have no software that would convert the TV standard of a card.

And over on 3drage forum they are basically saying the same.

Is ATI simply hiding these information from the end user or what?

I have no problem flashing mobo bios. But I never flashed a video card, especially it is not cheap......
