Using Airport Express as my sole WAP

I know nothing of networking or WAP's or the like other than I have an Airport Extreme base station setup right now, but my dad likes it and says he will buy it from me. Ok, I thought, I'll sell it to him and buy an Airport Express to replace it. How does this thing compare to the Airport Extreme in terms of signal strength and the like? Also, have any of you used one?

We tried out a Linksys WAP for his PC and laptop, but I hate the thing. His laptop can recognize the wireless signal, but it can't connect to the internet for some reason. So that is going back to the store I think.
