using AGP and PCI VGA card

Currently using a DVI connected LCD on an AIW 9800pro Sapphire card
I have a CRT monitor sitting around that I'd like to use for dualview.
I read somewhere that it is possible to add a PCI vga card for this.
However, when I asked a retailer, he said that its not possible.
He claims that only 1 of them would work.
Just wondering, which information is correct and is there any1 that've tried using both an AGP and a PCI card for dualview.
Also... IF it actually works, would I be better off getting an ATI or an Nvidia card?
Heard from the same source that it is recommended to get something dissimilar to prevent conflicts.
The choice is between an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI or GeForce FX5200 PCI.
Thx.

Of course that's possible. The AIW needs to stay the primary card though, so before sticking another card in, check in your system's BIOS whether you have a "Primary VGA" control where you can say "AGP" rather than "PCI".

Then, you should add a card that uses the same driver set as the one you already have. Will say, get a PCI Radeon card.

Thx for the reply.
My motherboard is an Abit IC7-Max3 and it has a setting called "Init Display First".
The options are "AGP" or "PCI slot".
Is that the one u were talking about?
Funny thing is its default is set on PCI.
Also if I use a sapphire card for my agp and a gecube for my PCI, will there be any conflicts?
1 last question... will it matter if i use a entry lvl card for the pci? say... an ATI 8mb pci card?

Yes, that's the one. Default is PCI, yes, but remember that's a _preference_ switch, telling the system which VGA is to become the primary (boot) display if there is one found both on PCI and AGP. So as long as you got only one in, that switch doesn't do anything at all.

As I said already, you should be using a card that uses the same driver set. The entire ATi Radeon series does, while their older "Rage" gear uses a different, no longer well-maintained driver. Go with the 9200 PCI you named in your first post.

I don't think using two cards that use the same driver set is absolutely necessary, although I would agree that it would surely lessen the chance of conflict. I've used a dual monitor setup. My primary video card is a PNY card with a nVidia chip. For the second monitor, I took an older ATI card (Expert 98 model, 8 MB memory) that was not being used and installed it in a PCI slot. This works fine.

When I was researching how to do this, I discovered http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/search.asp, a site devoted to multiple monitor setups. They have a database to help select compatible cards. I haven't looked at it for quite awhile but, as I recall, there are really many possible combinations.
