Using a wireless router as a simple wireless hub/access point?

Is it possible to use your average wireless router as an access point? I want it to be able to link computers with wireless cards to something, but not hide the IPs of those computers. Right now I have a wired router, connected to some computers through wires and some wirelessly through an AP, but the AP has broken down so I need something to replace it. All the access points I found were much more expensive than routers.
