Using a video projector with Win 98SE

We just built a new computer to use with a Panasonic video projector at church. The only way that I can get the projector to work is to turn the projector on and boot to the projector instead of the monitor. I would like to be able to boot with the monitor at the computer and then send the output to the projector when needed. If I try to do this the projector will not show anything.

Right now we are using one video card that goes to a mechanical A-B switch that will let me send the output to either the monitor or to the projector.

the specs on the computer are:

WIN 98SE
Asus CUSL2-C
P III 700
128 meg Kingston
ATI XPERT 2000 32MB AGP
20 GIG MAXTOR

ANY IDEAS??

I'm assuming the projector is connected to the VGA output of the video card. If so, the problem is likely with the projector, not the computer.

At the church where I work with the audio/visual equipment, we have an HP computer (from Wal-mart), and it is connected to the monitor and projector at the same time using a cable splitter. Not all computers will work with such a device, however, because the video card won't be able to put out enough power to drive both devices. Obviously, the best way to do this is to get two video cards, one for the monitor, and one for the projector. (Beware, they might not be compatible, so if you do this, be sure that you can return it if it doesn't work; we tried this, and our video cards didn't get along well together). Powerpoint 2000 (and probably other programs, too) can be configured to show the presentation on a particular video card.
