Using a software program to lower CPU temps?

There is a guy at school that says he downloaded a program that lowers his CPU temps.
I have no idea what the program is.

Is this possible? I dont understand how software can actually lower temps.
Anyone have any experience with this?

i don't think it's possible
however there was a flaw with the KT266/KT266A chipsets that made the processor's idle temps slightly higher.
and someone released a hack to fix it

This tool was called CPUIdle. At the time it was written either the K2 or the Pentium II (I do not remember which one it was) had no feature to go idle, when it was not actively executing code. You can say: these CPUs were always running like under full load and therefore at a high temperature. As these CPUs were build on a 35nm and later 25nm process they became quite hot and using CPUIdle was able to reduce the temperature when running a typical mix of applications. Of course it did nothing, when the CPU was forced to run full load anyway (like in a 3D game).

With todays CPUs this tool is no longer needed, as they all feature an Idle mode.

If you do a search in these forums ... you'll find that other members here use CPUidle or WPCRSET to reduce thier temps.
(up to 10C) I use it for my KT333 MB.
Its motherboard chipset specific and only used for the AMD CPU's

use CPUIDLE - if u dont mind it running in the background...........

use WPRCSET - his is much better coz i think nothing ill be loaded in the background....

try any of both & u wont regret it... my temps before at idle were around 40's degC but when loaded, it will decrease ur temps for upto 10 degC...

I f I remember correctly you DO NOT need this type of program with Windows NT,2000 or XP as they already support the code necessary to do the extra cooling...for instance..if you have win ME vs XP you will notice a 3-4 degree drop in idle temp for the XP vs ME. Any NoN believers, try it and see.

enable or not, but i got a rili huge decrease in temps when i used WPRCset or even CPUIDLE... before, 43-43 degC was my idle temp but it gone down to 33-34 after installing.... currently using winXP & Me in dual-boot mode...

You dont need it if you dont want it ... lol

I use W2K SP3 ... I used it on my AMD761chipset MB and my KT333 MB.

Both dropped my temps arounf 10C.
Idle now at 28.5 - 29C

not all motherboards need it ... like I said ... its MB chipset specific...

And in my case ... I also used it to get more memory bandwidth.
(WPCRSET that is)

Here is an update...I downloaded CPUIDLE just to see if there is a difference...I am using the A7V333 motherboard with an XP2200...my temp has dropped down to 24 d/c. Mind you it only stays there when the CPU is IDLE but hey...thats good enough for me.

This little tool can make a big difference in case temps.
Not all applications will make your CPU run at your previous higher temp BEFORE the tweak is applied.
Having a cooler case benefits all your components.

Face it ... before this tweak ... your processsor was nothing more than a heater. (at idle)

see? i told you it works... but some system dont want that software in so just try your luck... 😉😉😉

btw, im currently using WPCRSET to enable the same setting used in CPUIDLE... i like it this way coz its not loading in the background and taking away my precious windows resources...
