using a second wireless router to make extra wired connection

Hi,
I have a wireless router setup and everything running fine. Now, i have a second wireless router and want to use it to receive the wireless signal from the 1st wireless router and use the 2nd second wireless router to hook up extra computers via cable (because i don't want to buy anymore wireless adapters). Is this possible? Thanks in advance for all of the help.

In order to be capable to communicate with the Main Router you need a device (Wireless Router, or Access Point) that can be configured to work in Client mode (Regular Access Point Mode would not provide communication between two Wireless Routers/Access Points). Most new Access Poins can be configured as a Clients.

Very few Wireless Routers can be configured as a clients.

Of the Brand name Entry Level Cable/DSL Routers

Buffalo Tech., some of the Belkin, and some of the SMC, 802.11g models have the capacity to be configured out of the box as clients ( http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Modes.html ).

Linksys WRT54g v.1-4, and WRT54L models can be flashed with 3rd party firmware and work as Clients.

Otherwise you can extend the Network with a network cable and an additional Wireless Router configured as a switch with an Access Point, Using a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point

thanks jacksmds
i have the linksys wrt54g v2, how/where do i go about flashing the 3rd party firmware to make it work as clients? thanks again.

The page linked below would show you a comparison between the major 3rd party firmware.

http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=31

The first on the Table is HyperWRT + Tibor ( http://www.thibor.co.uk/#downloads ), it is the easiest to deal with and it is based on the original Linksys firmware.

If what you would like to do is included in (HyperWRT + Tibor), I would recommend it as a first choice.

Otherwise, choose another the one that fits better your needs.

What do I use it for?

1. Boosting the Power Output of the Wireless to 65mW.

2. Using IP reservation within the DHCP range.

3. Qos.

4. Some time configure to WDS.
