I will have the t240 connected directly to the DVR. I am wondering how the sound will work as my monitor does not have internal speakers. Will I have to have a separate audio system connected to the dvr?

Yes, you will need something for sound. If the monitor is by your pc, you could use it for sound. What dvr do you have, and how is it connected to the monitor?

I don't have TWC in my area, but your dvr should allow you to send sound
through one of the other audio connections.

I agree. It should be no problem to use another connection. My DirecTV DVR sends video through HDMI to TV and audio through digital optical or coax (can't remember) to my receiver. The worst you might have to do is going into the settings on the DVR and set it to output audio through another connection. On my DVR all outputs are always active, so I didn't have to do this.

You need to check to make sure, because some of the earlier dvr boxes for my cable company didn't give you the option if you used HDMI.

I had to get the dual tuner one for the hdmi. It has audio out and sends signal to the samsung perfectly. So everything is good.

yeah TWC is maxed at 1080i and it looks like shit. So I am going to cancel service. I tried 720p and that also looked like shit. Is this normal for using a monitor for TV purposes?

1080i is the max for all HDTV broadcast, and some channels only go to 720p.
Before you dump twc, what channels were you using for testing? Were the shows you
watched in HD?

Is your monitor one that has the tuner built in? I know that the 26" model does. If yours does,
can you get a station OTA, so you can compare?

No tuner on the monitor. I tried every HD channel. The quality was just bad, everything looked splotchy and smudgey. I have watched a few movies in 720p on this monitor and those looked great.

Do you have a friend who uses another TV provider, that you could visit? It would suck if you changed providers, and it turned out to be the monitor.

I think the hassle of getting it all working right is not worth it. They are my only option here, I am too far from the telco c.o. to even get dsl.

I have not had cable tv in years. I wont miss it much. 60 bucks a month.... I have much better ways to spend that. :p

Thanks all, but its back to internet only for me.
