Using a router with a network that requires an authentication client?

My university recently "ugraded" their network and now I have to use AEGIS Client to authenticate and obtain a lease so I can access the network (it was previously a simple PPPOE connection). The problem with this is that I can't figure out how to set up my router to work with this. Is it even possible, and how would I go about doing this?

Also, the IT department claims it can detect when someone is using a router and a hub and will disconnect them if they find someone doing that. Is there any way they can detect that I am using a router, provided I even get it to work in the first place? If they can detect that I am using one, is there any way I could hide that I am using one, like changing the router's default MAC address (which is what they are probably scanning for)?

Thanks for all the help.
