So I'm a total newbie when it comes to anything relating to RAIDs, but I learn quickly. Here's the deal, I was told I could use a plain old IDE HDD on PRI_RAID as simply another HDD for storage. I just wanted to add another for backup purposes, can I really do this? I've attached it to PRI_RAID, tried about every jumper setting possible, and the BIOS dosen't even stop to think about it, just nothing. Is there a BIOS setting I'm missing somewhere? I tried setting the IDE Configuration from S-ATA to P-ATA and nada. Thanks in advance.

And what the manual you got with the motherboard tell you about BIOS setting available. A quick read of the BIOS section will show you the options available to set your BIOS for non RAID usage of the drive.

I read through it and I didn't find anything about non-RAID usage, just set up for RAID.

I have used ASUS mobo`s for ever and ever....

My suggestion to you can call ASUS--last time I checked they had fantastic customer support!!

Or Since its been a long while since I have used just a regular IDE set up with 2 hard drives...
If memory serves me correctly...
You cannot use 1 harddrive as raid primary or whatever and the other as an ide drive.

You need to configure both as ide drives so that they will be recongnized by the bios!!

I would go back into my bios if you already have both drives set up and I would disable all the raid configs.

That way the bios will recognize both harddrives!

As I said its been a while.....I could be wrong!!
