using a mouse to play games on Android set top box

I have a EM 95x Android set top box hooked up to our 'dumb' TV. It works pretty well at playing local video content, Netflix, and SOME android games. We can play about half of them using the xbox 360 controller I have hooked up or the Microsoft USB mouse. The other half, when we install them, don't seem to register any input at all when I click on the screen with the mouse, or try hitting buttons on the controller.

It's all just a guessing game - download and install, then mash buttons and click the mouse. So far, I haven't figured out any way to know ahead of time. Case in point: my youngest son LOVES Knights of Pen and Paper. He wanted to play it on our TV, so I downloaded and installed it. Unfortunately, there was no reaction at all to my clicking anywhere on the screen, so I had to uninstall it.

His birthday is coming up, and he's asked again. I'm hoping that there might be some sort of workaround. Do any of you know a way to get Android apps to recognize screen clicks with a USB mouse as input just like pressing on the screen on an Android tablet or phone?

Thanks for any suggestions!

It should work. My Android Tablet has a USB port ln its keyboard as well as a trackpad. It works great as a mouse. I often hook up the HDMI cable and play games on the TV.

My guess is Android TV lacks the proper software, but not sure.

I use a Transformer Infinity from Asus as it has native mouse and keyboard support as well as HDMI and full size USB. Even a cheap smartphone can do this too.
