Using a modem for analog ports in Asterisk PBX

I've got Asterisk working and now I want to take it a step further.....

I have softphone to softphone traffic working fine, but now I want to link up to some analog lines and I understand that all I need is a supported hardware modem.

I've got a four port RocketModem installed and CentOS seems to find it Ok.

Sorry for the vague question, but... Now what? 😀

Hello I've been told to look into Asterisk for our buisinesses Phone system, I'd be interested in knowing if this is true I've read otherwise, but it would cool if it did.

jonnyGURU, go buy a Sipura SPA-3000. Modems aren't built to do this job and don't do it well. You're just going to have a lot of headache if you try.

Yeah... Those are just Intel Ambient modems. They work, but I had to reinstall Asterisk to get them configured. 🙁

randal, read the Asterisk mailing lists for the kinds of problems those boards can have. Digium doesn't even make the genuine board anymore. I didn't have too much trouble with my X100P, but the SPA-3000 is still a much better solution in my opinion.
