So I am building a new computer. and am a little strapped for cash to buy that 30 in apple display 🙂
So how can I use my current laptop screen that I love so much with my new computer, my new gfx card will be a 6600gt if that helps any. My laptop is a dell inspiron 8000. Thanks guys, big help!

get a video capture card for your laptop and plug in the s video cable thats coming out of your 6600 gt into the capture card. then make a recording of what is coming out of your computer and thats about all i can tell you.

 That MAY not be interactive enough for him.

You can't physically do it unless you tear your 8000 apart and build a splitter cable for it. You could use the LCD in a psudo-kind of way. You will need Windows XP on both machines ( there might be programs available for other OSes -- just Google "Remote Desktop software for ?? OS" ) and they must be linked by Ethernet, wired / wireless Network, etc. All you have to do ON THE PC YOU WANT TO ACCESS is to go into Control Panel / Performance and Maint / System ... Remote tab and set the HOST ( the machine you want to access ) computer to allow remote access. I use this to access my PC at home when I am away on business / vacations to read e-mail, etc. Of course the PC has to be on and in standby / hibernation mode.

So. With the right software / OS, you can use your laptop's display ( and I/O devices ) to view / access a second machine that is connected to it via network. You can also save, copy, paste, and delete content also.

basically extending desktop through network to another pc/laptop. limited by network speed so no gaming or video. so unless ur laptops got a real dvi/vga in.. u really are outa luck for a real monitor replacement.

synergy is nice freeware virtual kvm once u get another monitor...lets u use the laotop and pc with one set of kb/mouse😛

wow thanks for the info you guys! Guess ill have to go out and buy one i suppose, since i do a lot of gaming.
