Using a laptop LCD as a flat panel monitor

I am building a HTPC and space and money are my big concerns right now. I am using an old 15" NEC monitor with horrible picture quality currently, but it takes up to much space as well. My idea is to buy a 14.1" LCD from a laptop and convert it into a monitor for my HTPC. Does anyone know how much work it would be to convert to use a normal VGA connector? Any sites that cover how to do this? Sorry if this has been asked before, but searches for this didnt turn much up.

Thanks,
Brian

From the looks of it, it is harder than I originally thought. Bump just in case anyone has any ideas. If not, anyone know where I can get a decent flat panel for around $100?

Thanks,
Brian
