Using a gateway version of win2000 on a non gateway pc..HELP!!

My set of restore cds had windows 2000 on it...updated laptop ok..but when used it to install on my desktop(non-gateway)when it rebooted it said non gateway computer...install halted...reboot...any one know how to get around it....any help would be appreciated....
