Using a flatbedscanner with Linux if it's not supported by the manufacturer?

I've an Acer Scan2Web 3300 U flatbedscanner, and according to the manufacturer, it's not supported in Linux.

Could I still use it, or is it time to sell this scanner and get a compatible one?

Looks like Acer doesn't even want that it's scanners would work under linux.
