Using a Firewall can cause problems to my internet connection?

Hi ,
the problem I experience the past week has as follows: Whenever I tried to install an Internet security programm such as Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm Pro, although I touched no settings at the begging and my first 5 connections to the internet were fine, I had the following problems:

1. NIS was locked all the accounts. I couldn't control anything concerning this programm because it didn't give any administrator rights. Of course all the accounts had admonistrative rights by that time. This happened every and each time I was using the PC to connect to the internet. So I decided to change software.

2. I installed the Zone Alarm Pro 4.5.5 .Everything was working fine at the begging, but the second time I oppened the PC all the internet connections were lost and there was no other option but to make a DSL connection. I was on despare!!! I configured the PC to a point before the installation and now works fine.

Does anyone has a good explanation for all this? It is highly unusuall two different firewalls to respond like this. Of course I removed the first before I install the second - in fact I formated my drive before- and of course I had the security center of the SP2 shutted down. Any good ideas?

Did you configure your firewall's program access? Speaking from my experience with ZoneAlarm, I've had connection problems until I've gotten it set up right. For some reason, stealth mode seems to cause it. Back your firewall control down to medium. If you're behind a router, you already have an initial layer of protection anyway. Then, go into program control and start giving your programs their internet priviledges. See if that fixes your problem.

P.S. I took a peek at NIS once and didn't like it. I didn't feel it gave me as much control over its configuration as I really needed.
