Using a fan mobo fan header for a globalwin FOP 38 on MSI Pro 2A

Does anyone out there use the C-Fan header with a hsf such as the GlobalWin FOP 38. I've read several article that say don't and I was just wondering what you guys think. I would prefer to use the fan header, but not at the cost of the mobo.

If I'm not mistaken, the FOP 38 uses a Delta 38CFM fan (black label). If that's the case, don't use the CPU fan header on the motherboard; it will burn out (I know from experience). It worked at first, but then it quit. If this happens while you're away from the computer, say "goodbye" to your T-Bird. If you must use the CPU fan header (for the RPM monitor), there's a simple modification you can do to the motherboard to prevent it from burning out. Simply remove the motherboard from the case and flip it over. Then, soldier a small wire (30 gauge or so) from pin 10 (yellow wire) of the power connector to the middle pin of the CPU fan header. This will supply extra current to the fan. Look in the manual to find pin 10.

Well I can tell you that my kt7 could handle it just fine. Its 4 fan headers were rated much higher than the delta fan though. Knowing the stability over performacne history of msi, its fan headers probably won't work.

Can you provide link to article ?

Is the problem due to the fact that the m/b doesn't have enough power in the header to support the FOP 38 ?...

Or, did I miss something ?

Can you provide reason / explanation ?

Thanks.

;)

slvrbullet and zemel I have read the same thing that useing a FOP-38 they advise you to use 3 to 4 pin adapter which comes with the FOP-38 or it does on 2cools site. Heres a cut a copy of what it says under the FOP-38 fan.

<< This is a loud, high speed fan. It has a 3 pin connector for RPM monitoring, but I highly recommend using the included 3 to 4 pin adapter to attach to a power supply lead, otherwise you risk burning out motherboard headers. Comes with a grill and 3-4 pin adapter, but no thermal compound. >>

Ive read this on other websites also.I have heard of it frying boards if you dont use the 3 to 4 pin adapter but cant confirm it myself. I bought a FOP-32 and it runs great. I went ahead and bought a FOP 38 fan only just incase I needed it but but my Duron 600 @ 1020 seems to be staying cool right now.

Thanks....now clearer.

Obviously, since must connect directly to PS, should mean it needs too much juice to run; if connect directly to m/b, the surge will cause m/b or something else to fry....should also mean can't use monitoring software for this item.

:D
