I'm just one filter short here at my house and at the moment, I've got two phones connected to one filter using a 2 line splitter. Would that work okay? Not that i'm experiencing any problems.. but there IS a single second at which I pick up the phone before I would hear the dial tone.

as long as both phones are filtered, which they are according to you, then you'd be fine!

All that matters is that all phones be connected to a filtered line, and the DSL modem be connected to a non-filtered line. The reason you normally connect each phone to a different filter is that you normally have them on different jacks, and the jacks split from each other before a filter. If you have too many phones (you're only supposed to use 5 filters, but presumably each filter can use a splitter safely) then the DSL provider installs a filter at the NID where the phone lines come in. This filter is like a combination splitter and filter. One line gets passed straight through to the line that the DSL is connected to, the other gets passed through a filter and then connects to the lines carrying the phones. With this you can have any number of phones, so it's pretty much the same as just having a splitter plugged into a filter.

If you're running out of filters, then most likely you are exceeding the specs and should have a splitter at the NID. Using a splitter does get around that but it means having wires running around the place.

I dunno about the pause when you pick up the phone. Does it happen on any of the phones connected to other filters? Does that same phone have a pause when connected to other jacks?

It's does not matter as longs as you filter the noise out from the line, however you can purchase filters, i got at least 12 of them kicking around the house maybe you could buy them off of ebay.

Alright cool. That's all I needed to know cuz everything is workin fine :)
I've actually got the DSL modem and the 2 phones workin off the single jack using a splitter... and then another splitter on the filter for the 2 phones.. so it's all weird. lol

I had my main line connected directly to 1 single filter except for the line to my computer, which i ran all the phones in the house off of.

I then had a filter for my adsl modem. Everything worked fine, except BT exprienced problems on their end and I ended up wasting my time and going back to cable.
