using a domain user account locally

Is there a way I can set a domain user account in Windows XP to work both on the domain and locally when not connected? I usually log on to my computer at work using my account from a domain. But if I take the computer home I can't log on to the same user account. I have access to the local administrator account, and I can tunnel in to the work domain via VPN after logging in, but I need to set up my machine so that I can log on to the same account with and without a domain. Is this possible to do, and if so, how would I set this up?

Domain user accounts should work just fine when not connected to the domain. My domain account works on my laptop when I'm away from the office. The credentials should be cached locally, allowing you to log in.

This sounds like something you should discuss with your domain admins / IT staff.

Although there's likely a Policy that can keep a Domain-joined PC from being used off-network, it certainly isn't a default setting. You can disconnect a PC from the network and it should still allow login with your Domain account.
