Using a different size battery? (Still 12v)

My Mazda3 takes Size 35 (left).
The Size 34 (right) is about the same price but alot higher CCA (800 vs 640).

The battery compartment in my car is just a platform and a metal strap. It's not enclosed.
The battery sits there in the open under my hood. 😱

1a) can i use Size 34?
1b) Should i use Size 34? (or stick with Size 35?)

2) why doesnt the car manufacturer use Size 34 as default since it's similar in price but alot more CCA? (more CCA = better?)

The reserve capacity on the group 35 is likely higher and the terminals appear to be reversed between the two. Your battery cables may or may not reach if they're on opposite sides vs where they are now.

With a shorter battery, you may need to modify your battery tiedown (depending on how its configured) or put a spacer under the battery so the existing tiedown works properly.

CCA doesn't really matter if your starter and motor doesn't need that much current. Just because the battery can handle higher current doesn't necessarily mean it will benefit you in any way. Reserve capacity is more important in this particular case.
