Using a blower over my GPU to suck out hot air? Anyone else use one???

The 7800gtx dumps all its hot air inside the case which isn't helpful of course... I was thinking about getting a blower to put in the PCI slot next to it, but was wondering what would be a good one to use.... I know I'll never know the results until I try, but when I used one in my P4/6600gt system it actually increased temps....

I cut a hole in my case, put a casefan on it, and took out all the Expansion slot brackets. That way, Cool air blows on the GPU, while it leaves through the PCI expansion slots.

The NV Silencer exhausts the hot air directly out of your case.

They don't make one for the 7800 serires yet, but I'm sure one is on the way. See if you can hold on until then.

Just buy a slot cooler!

They are cheap, and very effective - I've used them in the past with great success.

Yeah they are not bad. Need to be replaced every year, probably sooner. Only nine or ten bucks though.

Heres a great thread about it on another forum.

Basically a guy took the fan out of the slot cooler to serve as an intake duct. GPU fans suck air in while most slot fans exhaust air. This would normally just make the two fans compete. By taking out the slot fan and just using it as a duct, the GPU fan can bypass the warm case air entirely and use cool outside air. He had to modify (aka cut) the slot cooler so it would line up directly with the gpu fan.

It sounds like a great idea. Slot coolers are dirt cheap so give it a try.

Well, your best bet is to use a slot cooler. Just make sure your gpu fan is blowing air into the slot cooler and not trying to suck. If it is sucking (pun intended) you can reverse the fan.

I don't think many slot fans can be reversed. Either look for one that is specifically marked as an intake (such as this Antec model) or modify a regular one and just use the duct itself to get to the outside air.

Personally I think the cheap duct is the best idea. You GPU fan can already draw the outside air through the duct. Theres really no need for an extra fan as long as the duct is right up next to, and matching with, the GPU fan.

as long as you have a couple of exhaust fans and a good air throughput, that should be fine..afaik they are pretty cool running cards...

You know of any cheaper solutions that are also intake?
