Using 3rd Hardrive with Raid 0

a newbie question. e8400 computer damaged by virus (despite Norton 360), and now, after shop repair buggy, an slow.

Unable to do windows reinstall as the Twin 160 GB Raptors in Raid 0 have a $1000 program that I'm unable to load onto a new drive.

My solution is to use the Raid 0 for the professional program only, and put everything else on a new 160G WD Caviar 7500 RPM.

Question: when I plug in the new drive will this damage the Raid 0 set up?

One option would be instead of RAID 0, back-up/mirror the program onto another drive, reformat one partition of the drive and do a fresh install of windows on that, this way save the $1000 program , albeit if there's a real virus stuck with it, you won't get rid of it without a total reformat of all data, but if its just a windows reg issue then this should give you a new option on speeding it up. At least that's my opinion on the matter.

Also your set-up should work, no reason for damage since you're using a totally different hard drive.

txs krn, but unable to back up or mirror the program. i can move program folders but unable to move the whole program. So, am intent on give said program to the two raptors, BUT concerned whether--when the new drive plugs in, will plugging it in interfere with or damage the Raid 0 set up containing the program? guess this is a general question whether a Raid 0 and a single drive can exist on the same system?? Its on board RAID btw.

Generally, you can run a RAID configuration and have a separate single drive running alongside it.
