Using 3.5mm jack as a switch

I recently purchased a Foscam fi9810w and it's working fine and dandy. One of the features allows you to turn on/off both a microphone and/or speaker that is built into the camera. There are also 3.5mm jacks for external microphones and speakers if you choose to use them.

Now, I was wondering if there was a way to use the 3.5mm jack as a switch to turn on/off another device that is plugged in? For example, instead of having the microphone turn on when I enable it remotely, it would turn on a device that is connected to it.

I'm sure there is a way to rewire the inner workings of the camera to do this, but I'm hoping to not void the warranty just yet. Maybe a little bit down the line. 😉
