Hi!

Need help troubleshooting Dell 2001fp's USB hub. I trie to use it with my mouse but mouse movement became all choppy and slow. Turns out, when I use mouse thru the usb hub on 2001fp, CPU usage increases by a wide margin - instead of usual 2-4%, CPU is loaded up to 50% and MORE!!! what is going on here? I plug the mouse back into the motherboard, and everything is back to normal but when I plug in the USB hub, cpu usage increases (even when nothing is connected to the hub). I checked all connections, and all cables are fine.

My specs: intel 875 board with latest intel chipset inf; p4 3ghz cpu, 1gb memory, and logitech mx510 mouse. Any suggestions or ideas?

I don't thing they were meant to run your mouse. I don't use mine but I would guess they were intended for temp use such as a card reader to load some pics on your PC.

ehh.. where does it say that using USB hub must come at a huge CPU-usage penalty? I strongly believe my hub is not working right. I am pretty sure if u use urs, u won't see any difference in using either computer usb port or the one on the monitor. Besides, usb hubs on monitor ARE for that kind of convenience... U supposed to be able to hook up all peripherals to the monitor = keyboard, mouse, headphones even, and have just usb+video+sound (if u have optional speakers) cables run from monitor to the computer - it's all about convenience, you know. Don't mean to lecture but ur suggestion of a LIMITED usability of usb hub is a little, err, unreal :D Ppl buy usb hubs to have that convenience to hook stuff to them and then run single wire to the computer which, for intents and purposes, might be hanging outside in a cage for better cooling ;)

I think you're probably right that there's something wrong with your hub. I just plugged a USB mouse into my 2001FP's hub and it used no extra cycles when idle. If I move it around, it will use up to 20% of the CPU, the same amount that my PS/2 mouse uses whether the USB mouse is plugged in or not.
These tests were done under Linux using XOSview on the hardware in my sig.

thx... I'm gonna RMA this thing, it sux it does not work properly, besides, there are few other quirks (5-6 stuck pixels, dead s-video in, tilted stand, backlight bleeding, etc). And it's supposed to be $1000 monitor?
