Using 2 USB Sidewinder gamepads at once

They re-released a nice new version of the Sidewinder gamepad, they're only 15$ so i picked one up for ROM play.

I want to buy another so friends and I can do 2 player games. I can for see a problem with this though.

When you plug the gamepad in, each button is designated as something like GMPD1 (for example, this is off completely, but it will do) which you can then map to say the A button on the SNES controller. Anyway, if I have two of these gamepads plugged in, will the mapping be the same for both controllers?

So if I map the A button on the first controller to the SNES A button, will the 2nd controller also have the same mapping, completely defeating the purpose of the second controller? Or is there a way to change the button configuration through windows so that both controllers don't use the same mapping?

Any ideas ?

With many programs there are settings to define which controller is named what... like it'll have obviously 2 pads detected, and then each one gets a different prefix...

Ok so most likely windows will recognize that there are two seperate gamepads and assigng different control maps to each?

From my experience with pads and joysticks...

...nope. No problem at all. They're given different IDs. You'll probably have to assign the player 2's controls independantly of player 1.

USB joysticks have no problems with multiple joysticks on one computer. I have had issues with using more than one gameport joystick though...
