Using 2 cable jacks w/o Comcast charging 2 full services

I have two bedrooms in my apartment and they both have existing cable jacks in the walls. I want internet access in both rooms, but using two seperate cable modems means Comcast charging two full services. I know I could set up a wirless network for the second computer, but is there any way to use the two cable jacks that are already there instead?

You cannot use the same Ip address on two computers.

Get a router. If you need wireless now or sometime in the future, get a wireless router. You will only need the one modem which will connect to the wan port on the router, and you will also have ports for connecting the computers to. The router will obtain the external Ip address from your service provider, then assign individual internal Ip address to your computers based on the router gateway address. Not sure with comcast but you may have to call them up to add the mac address of your new router to there system which is a simple procedure and I'm sure they won't mind.

Welcome to the Network Forum.

You can Fish out the RG-59 coax that connects the entry of the Cable service to second room and put a Cat5e instead.

Then you can Use ICS as a NAT to share the Connection.

Voila you got to use the current conduit in the wall!!!

However, for the cost of the CAT5e, the two NICs, the plugs, and the wall plates, you can get an inexpensive Wireless Cable/DSL Router.:

So let the wall rest in peace and enjoy modren technology. 😀

Just use the one cable modem and then get a router. The Netgear MR814 is a good model, buy.com has it for $19 after rebate right now.

Get the router installed, then you can run some CAT5 to the 2nd room, or else use the wireless access feature of the MR814 to get internet in both rooms.
