Using 1080P tv as everyday monitor?

I was thinking of getting a 3007 fpw, but it occured to me I could get more screen size for only a small sacrifice in screen realestate. So is there anything wrong with this? Also, what's a good 37-42 inch 1080p lcd?

The westinghouse models are fairly popular.

If you search around the video area you'll find some good threads with opinions and some pictures.

I think people are generally quite happy with their purchases.

I think it pretty much boils down to how close you want to be to the display. If it's going to be on your desk right in front of you, a Dell 2407 or something would be a good choice and get you 1920x1200. If you're going to be farther away from it or want it to be viewable by more than one person, getting a larger display could be a very good idea.

Coming from my experience in front projection, a larger screen area with similar resolution pretty much boils down to how far away from it you want to be and how many people you want to be able to get a good view of it.

I'm quite glad I have a nice big display for some gaming and movie watching while having a smaller higher res display for everyday internet stuff.

Only issues for me so far (one month of ownership):
- it's very bright (I set the backlight at 0 or 1 for web-browsing; 2 for viewing tv or dvds from a distance of about 10 feet; backlight goes up to 5)
- power consumption (0 - 75W; 1 - 95W; 2 - 110W; 3 - 130W; 4 - 150W; 5- 171W)
- because everything is blown up to a 37 inch widescreen diagonal, lots of stuff that wasn't designed for such a large desktop (e.g. Windows desktop wallpaper) can look grainy. Text from websites, though is really crisp.

I am very happy with purchase and paid a couple hundred dollars more for mine.

I think consensus is it is awesome has an HD gaming monitor (no ghosting) and as a pc monitor. Only so - so black levels and poor shadow detail compromise it's performance for viewing hdtv and dvd, but it represents great value for the money (supposed to be competitive with Samsung ans Sony LCDs in the $3000 range).

2560x1600=4 Megapixels
1920x1080=2 Megapixels

the 3007FPW has double the pixels of a 1080p TV.

However I do have to say the 37/42 inch westinghouse LCD's make great computer monitors, and I think crutchfield is having a huge sale on the 37 this weekend.

The pixel pitch of 1920x1080 on anything larger than 20" is too large to use as an everyday monitor IME. 2560x1600 on a 30" is just about right. 🙂

it all depends on how far away you're going to sit from it. if you want too see movies, then a 1080p TV would be good. however, for a computer monitor, the 3007 would be better.

Well, I normally leave my 20 inch CRT, which I sit about 2 feet from, at 1280x1024, that may not be a huge issue.
