using 1 stick of DDR ram...video is stuck in safe VGA mode....???

hey, I just bought a new system, and 1 of the ram sticks is bad

ocx platinum ddr400 3200 1gig x 2

meanwhile, I'm trying to run my system on 1 stick, at least

but I'm only booting into 600x400 vga mode; even though the 6800gt is recognized in hardware.....it's not letting me change the resolution!!


anyone know what the deal is? I still have 1gig of ram, shpould be fine...??

thx for any help, I'm fed up with this POS right now

thats gotta be a mobo problem or something, not the video card. try putting different ra in from another computer if possible.

I had this exact same problem. I tried every RAM slot, to no avail. I finally just replaced my RAM since it's so cheap now, and everything has been fine ever since.

fock...I just spent $400 on 2x1 gig DDR RAM, these are brand new!!

not to mention wasting the last 3 days of my free time dinking with this thing...frustrating

LOL...I couldn't remember my password for this forum, & it wasn't cached in the new computer when I made that 1st post, so I had to create a new profile here


I was wondering why it auto-logged me in this time... shoulda just stuck with this old reliable PII

well depends...it definetely looks like ur RAM is gone!! and 1GB should be more than enuf unless ur heavy into gaming
