Using 1 stick of 1GB DDR400, or 2 sticks of 512MB DDR400???

I'm wondering if there's anything to be lost when running with 1 stick of DDR400 instead of 2 sticks of DDR400, and thereby loosing the dual channel capability of my VIA KT880 chipset motherboard. The 1 stick is about $10 cheaper than buying 2 sticks.

Either is obsolete so I don't plan on buying more in the future to pair up the 1GB if time comes. What do you think? I have AGP 8x ATi Gfx so it's not using onboard GPU if that matters. Thanks.

With Skt. 939, dual-channel RAM accounts for ~5% performance increase, in software that's fairly RAM-intensive. In most instances, you'd probably never notice it, but whether it's worth $10 more is up to you.

Okay, since I'm at the end of the upgrade path, I might as well get 2 sticks so to get top of the class performance.
