Uses for Ascend Pipeline 75 ISDN modem/router

my dad brought this unit home recently since his company doesn't use it anymore. However, I have cable at home so there really doesn't seem to be any use for it.

What can I do with it? Should I sell it? Can it be used as a router (1 port mebbe?)

Can I hook it up to a phone line and get faster modem speeds? (or does it require an ISDN provider as i assume) Or can you use it as a modem and a phone line at the same time (like a pseudo-dsl modem)

It's model # P75-1UBRI

Suggestions anyone? thanks🙂

The PipeLine 75 is ISDN only. The phone jacks on the back are for voice-service-over-ISDN. The routing capability is limited to stuff coming in to /out from the ISDN jack.

Pretty much useless unless you have ISDN. It's a nice unit, I had one for years. They used to retail for $US 500.00-700.00 (I had a 50 and 25 and the Kentrox units too, all very nice).

FWIW

there's no way to configure or hack the unit so the WAN port can take a regular cable and become a 1 port router?

Yeah this seems like a very good unit, high-end product. If I can't use it as a router then im sure someone will appreciate this.

The manuals for this unit are so thick! My RT-314 came with a poster sheet describing how to use it and that was it! I'm too lazy to read through all those pages

The '75 is a commercial grade thing. You can probably multi-net the Ethernet port, but why? You get all of the headaches with none of the benefits (and you effectively would half the bandwidth to the Ethernet port).

There are a lot of 'em out in the field, play with it and get to know it, maybe it'll help with a job later on. Ascend stuff has a fairly consistant look-and-feel across the similar product lines. The terminal interface (ANSI block graphics or VT 52/100) is less than thrilling, but functional.

have fun

thanks, i guess i don't really have much use for it then. i'll play with it a little and probly sell it. what's a reasonable price for it? It's practically new with all original packaging.

I bought a 75s - same product but without the integrated nt1 - for £60 (~$85) a couple of weeks ago. I'd imagine you'll probably not get much more than this, afraid broadband has likely killed the market for second hand isdn gear.

Check out this thread.. He was looking for opinions of an ISDN modem vs a router. A P50/P75 is exactly what I recommended. You guys might be able to make a deal.
