Users on network don't appear.

I have two computers on my home network: one is running windows 2000 (professional), and the other i just installed windows xp 64-bit (beta). after installing it, for some reason, i cant get the computer on the other end to show up on the network. for example, when im on the win2k computer, it will show up on the network, but the winxp computer wont. the same with the winxp computer.

both computers connect to the internet, and both are under the same workgroup, so why cant i get them to recognize eachother?

thanks,
wfbberzerker

Are you using public IP addresses for both? How are they set up?

If they are both getting their IP addresses from your ISP, they don't see each other as local. It's a bit tricky to use TCP/IP to do a local network when both of them have IP addresses for the internet.

Okay, the next thing I would check would be to see if the XP 64 bit box has its firewall enabled on your LAN. Disable it, if it is. Also, can your two computers ping each other? Also make sure sharing, etc, is enabled on the XP box.

I assume these two saw each other just fine before the 64 bit OS was installed on the one?

ill check the firewall...

pinging works fine, and both rigs show up on the dhcp clients table.

and yes, everything was working fine before i installed the 64 bit xp.

you can also force the issue a bit by doing a search for a computer (an option of file search) instead of waiting for them to find each other.
