Users appearing on and off??

Hi Guyz,

I'm currently using WInME and there are 4 pc connected in this house. The problem is, once in a while we'll see all our pc's in the network then suddenly after a few times of reboots and a few days, we will not get to see each other?? We're doing the internet connection sharing bit and everybody has access to it. I just wanna know why are we appearing on and off in the network. We can find each other's pc btu this is annoying. Can't we just like browse the network like anybody else does??

Is there anyway I can disable the password thingy before I enter the network cause my friends utilise the WOL to wake my pc up and connect to the net??

Depends on network protocols and how often network is updated. Two NICs in a computer can also slow it down. Will be faster if you make Netbeui the default LAN protocol. To get rid of password use Windows logon as the Network logon - and in Windows logon disable users must log on, and set the default user. WOL still might not work to resume internet access since all services don't properly come out of standby or suspend - you can only try it and see.

First off in a Peer-to-peer network the Master browser list takes a while to update. This list is maintained by one of the machines. I would check to see and make sure all your machines or at least the one that will be mostly on has the master browser list either on or auto. If all the machines turn on at once there is an master browser election held to determine who will be the list holder and this takes time also and happens before the list is populated with computers. I would recommend making sure you make primary protocals all the same on all machines whether it be TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, Netbuei. This will speed up the process of asigning a master browser and populating the list.
