I got this error, and now I can't retrieve my previous user state....it's lost...the data appears to be there, but when I try to switch users, it just keeps me logged on as administrator....mad screwy.

i had no unusual crashes or anything either - my data is mysteriously corrupting?...unless i have a virus of course, since I don't have a checker...i only download off popular sites anyway (i.e. tucows, cnet, etc.)

anyway to retrieve some of my user settings by, say, swapping the data folders (though I probably wanna make a new account besides administrator, non?)?

edit: i pretty much retrieved everything...but now i get this "the system has recovered from a serious error" msg...which i can't seem to solve.

interesting.

The error "the system has recovered from a serious error" means your system has just been booted after a blue screen of death.

Check the system event logs for more details. Search on the hex numbers in the event logs for possible causes.

(I know that doesn't help you with the corruption, tho.)

i had no blue screen of death actually...it appears to have been my video drivers.

apparently it rolled back to the 23.11 detonators - which are total ass - so i'm using another version without any problems so far.

i had to manually recover everything by adding a new user, updating it like i had it, moving files from the old user over to the new one, deleting the old user, and renaming the new one to the old one.

pain in the ass...

Let me assure you: if you got that error message, you DID have a blue screen of death. Really. Believe what the computer is telling you.

REALLY, i didn't....it does it on every restart...or did.

it would restart fine w/ no BSOD and login to greet me w/ that error...no BSOD.

in winxp, a BSOD is hardcore..it drops u right out of windows and halts or restarts...

Nortexoid, you're right. I had the exact same error that you are now getting, and it was not after a BSOD nor did the computer reboot from a "bugcheck".

I was able to get rid of the error by booting to the xp cd and reinstalling, using the reinstall, then repair options. I had that error for about 3 days, and it's been gone since "repairing" for about 2 months.
