I am looking for a backup solution to backup user profiles, stored on our server. One of the issues is the backup program needs to run as SYSTEM... since the user is owner of their folder, and no other users have access. NT Backup does this but lacks other features. We tried NTI Backup Now but it doesnt support this feature.

One thing I'd like to do is a daily backup, and keep it for a week, and have it so we could easily restore a file if a user accidentally deletes it. Are there programs that do this? We plan on using a RAID hardrive setup to store the backups and copying them to DVD's a few times a month. On that note, can someone suggest some sort of external HD storage system that supports RAID? our server drive slots are full, bigger SCSI drives are too damn expensive, and we don't want another whole server.. Just a USB2 (or similar) box with at least 2 harddrives. LaCie has something that might work, but they only seem to have 1+terabytes.. something like 400-500gigs would work good for us. speed isnt a big issue. Thanks.

I just skimmed through this a little bit. For backup software maybe "bacula"? Google it.

Arcserve has no problem backing up my network roaming profiles, but many other back-up solutions I tried wouldn't touch them.

For this reason and many others I try to avoid romaing profiles at all costs. However, on my Citrix/Terminal Server clusters they are mandatory. Without assuming ownership of every file in your profile directory, most back-up software won't touch them.

As for an external RAID solution, you might try two external enclosure and the HDs of your preference, and simply mirror the two nightly with XXcopy.
