AAARGHHH!!!!
I am sick to death of these CPU fans these days. My GlobalWin fans refused to come out

and eventually i had to apply so much force that the actual catch where the screwdriver

goes actually broke..........now my fan is permanently stuck on top of my cpu and i will

have to saw it out. I narrowly avoided putting a hole in my M/board and i guess im

lucky in that respect. I am now looking for a fan that is easy to put on/detach as i

use thermal paste quite a bit. I also want a powerful fan so noise is not an issue for me.

Is there any good screw on chips cos i am sick to death of those *&@# clips. If so are the

screw on ones hard to put on / take off??

Any suggestions much appreciated

Cheers

The Thermalrite SK6 is extremely easy to work with.

i had a similar (bad) experience with a golden gate HSF. why cant they make the clipping design more better and less damaging...

well for the heat sink to truly work.. it must be one with the surface of the cpu.. and it cant do it unless its really tight.. and if its gotta be that tight with a clip on ... then its gonna be tough.. but very secure (in theory..theres still another axis where it can slip a little)

I don't think you want any that mount to the 4 holes on AMD motherboards- they're only easy with the board out of the case. Some of the Vantecs have pretty easy clips. the mcx370 and cpc30370 have screw type mounts that attach to the zif socket, and Newegg carries the Thermal Integration Dr Thermal VI-77L which has a cam lever to tighten the clip, supposed to be a good unit.

You really shouldn't have to fuss with good thermal paste at all, well, not more often than every few years.

Oh, yeh, Globalwin clips are notoriously miserable....

The best attaching HSF, bar none, would be the Glacialtech Igloo 4300 for the P4. Fitting it takes about 8-10 seconds and you can do it with one hand. I'm not sure if they have a HSF for Athlons though- I'd hope so
