User Cannot Connect to OS X Server shares

Last weekend I ordered a Mac Mini Server. I was expecting something like WHS, but quickly discovered that I was in a little over my head. With the help of the documentation, the internet, and my friend I am making progress.

I've set up a few sharepoints and made home directories for myself and my wife (only users on the network).

But here's the problem, my wife cannot connect to the server. I can connect using my user name and password from her computer, but when I put in here user name and password it thinks a while and then tells me invalid user name or password.

Has anyone run into this?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
Good point Nothinman 🙂

Both machines are MacBook Pros running OS 10.6

My magic 8-ball tells me that she's running Vista and having issues with SMB security, you may need to loosen it's server requirements.

Ok, so both are on 10.6(.5?), both have the user accounts set up.

Have you tried connecting from the laptop (her user account) to the Mini (her user account)? What I am saying is have you tried making sure that her account is logged in on the Mini?

I always just log into my roommate's systems with his account information, and the same applies in the opposite direction. If you log in as you, can you access her stuff?

I can log into my account from both her and my laptops (both MBP's running Snow Leopard). I can't log into her account from my MBP or hers.

This would point to a configuration issue with her user account on the server and I was wondering if there were any obvious things people have run into with this problem.

Granted we could both just use my login, but I have home directories for both of us configured and I wanted to make it so we could each have our own set of folders.

I'm not sure the status of her account. I'm away from home on business until Thursday so I can't mess with it until then.

Fair enough

It's very frustrating when I'm hundreds of miles from a computer problem that I really want to solve.

I posted on Apple's support forum and someone suggested that her account might be local to the server machine only. I think that's along the same lines as your suggestion.

I haven't tried logging in with her account on the actual server machine. That would at least clarify some things. But I think that I need to go back and delete and recreate her account. Each time I do something in OS X Server I pick up another thing I missed the time before.

On the up side, I was able to point my machines to the OS X Server when Comcast's DNS went down Sunday night. So that felt like a geeky win 🙂
