In short, humidity has a much stronger effect than either temperature or temperature variations on hard drive reliability. Highly relevant for datacenter operators and designers, but possibly relevant for those of us who have a few hard drives, and are estimating our own long-term TCO

Interesting. That speaks well for the new sealed drives filled with helium. They would not be affected by humidity. Maybe that is why my HDDs last so long - very low humidity in Arizona.
