When you update some of the larger groups with 2 million+ headers, such as a.b.dvd or a.b.c.image, does it take lag your computer and take forever to "remove old articles from cache"?

We don't want to let n00bs in on our secret ;)

Too late :) I always see these noobs saying "REQ: GTA SA PC!!!!!!!" or "AMAZING! FREE IPODS, LAPTOPS, GAME SYSTEMS, etc".

So how about the topic at hand?

The second rule of usenet (and the only one you need): NewsLeecher and Newzbin

Newsleecher has a free 30 day trial and newzbin is $0.50 a week - that's a $2.00 expense for an entire month. Check back with me in a month and let me know if it was worth it. :)

If you use giganews, then you can limit the number of articles that it will download at one time. Other news servers might also have this feature. This will limit the number of "games demos" that you can see, but it greatly speeds up the updates. I think mine is set at a limit of about 250k articles.

I definitely agree. And if you wait around, you can find times when it's 50% off, or only $0.25/week. This usually happens around Christmas time. I haven't downloaded headers in over a year since I started using newzbin and newsleecher...definitely worth the cost.
