Usenet - Free speech for all

I use the Usenet for most of my computer hardware/software issues. The reason is simple: the Usenet is an open forum and threads don't get locked just because someone decides they don't like what you are saying. The price you pay is the occasional troll and spam, but it's a price worth paying IMO. Put your knowledge into a forum and the forum owns YOUR work. The Usenet is out there for anyone who wants to archive it and is globally searchable on Google.

I use this forum for all my computer related questions and have found the information to be accurate and insightful. I can't contribute in the technical arena so I try to stay where I can be somewhat participatory, In the P&N and OT (at times).
Perhaps you're many steps above technically or in the hot deals or whatever and need an enviornment more to your level and likes.
I hope you find it.

Hey, you agreed to the Terms Of Service, so QUIT YOUR BITCHING!

If you were really that concerned with free speech, you wouldn't have an account here, but seeing as you agreed that you are posting on a private server, and all material can be censored/deleted, STFU.

Usenet is great, it has been around almost since the beginning of the net. It is one of many great resources for information but it has one big drawback over messageboards: time lag. On a board like this I can post a question and get answers as soon as someone knowledgable takes the time to post a reply. The cost is I generally must agree to the TOS which are generally instituted for the good of the community as a whole. When I post a question to usenet I have to wait for it to propogate, someone to answer, and their answers to propogate. In addition I have to deal with spam of every kind and hordes of idiots who never learned the first thing about netiquette.

I'd use usenet more, but my ISP doesn't offer access. And I'm not willing to pay to put my stuff out there.

It would be nice, and in some ways not so nice, if these (and other) forums were searchable via groups.google.com.
