Watching DCI is one of the things I miss now that I live in Seattle. You just can't see the good division I corps around here.

My high school drumline instructor was an instructor for the Scouts drumline for several years. I wanted to join the Scouts or Phantom but didn't want to put in the 4+ hrs/day needed to get in. I remember one year in the Cavaliers, of all the people trying out for the entire corps, over 1/3 of them were trying out for 2 snare spots.

DCI is awesome, but super time consuming. I did WGI in all independent classes: A, Open, and World. I would say that the discipline and passion helped shape the future of my life and career, even though it has nothing to do with drumming. For this, I am a die hard believer that performing arts are every bit as important in our education as hard science.

Edit: look closely at my avatar. 😉
