Used Sony KW-34HD1 Is it worth it?

A coworker of mine is selling a 3 year old KW-34HD1 for $700. Should I buy it? I'm not up to speed on the latest TV technology. He says he paid $3000 for it 3 years ago. It works and acutally looks great. Is it worth spending 700 bucks on a used TV. What's the lifespan of these?

It's one of the first Sony high def widescreen crt's, circa late 2000, early 2001. It originally MSRPed for $8999, but it's definitely not worth that today. You'll be very limited on inputs (only has 2 component, no DVI or HDMI) but it does have an over the air HD tuner (not digital cable ready though). In my mind, it's 5 or 6 years old now, picture should still be good, but you can get a samsung widescreen crt for a little more that will have the same picture quality, more inputs, digital cable ready and has a warranty. HDTVs have come a long way in the past 5 years...I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice stepping back that far for a tv.
