Saw a used 36G Raptor go on ebay tonight for $82.39 + $8 shipping.

Yes or No answer...was it worth it for that?

And No...I didn't get it...I bid less.

Never buy the 36GB, for 2 reasons:

It's not faster than anything except maybe 5400 drives.
It's only 36GB!

Just because it's a raptor doesn't make it good. That one sucks.

Which one should I get? What sucks is that I live in Canada and so many of the great deals are in the states but as soon as something comes over the boarder I end up paying brokerage fees for UPS (Which most companies use). I hate UPS, DHL, Fedex...etc. They are crooks.

Well the 74GB is actually faster, but it may not be worth the money. I got it simply because I wanted fast, not lots of capacity. I haven't used half the space yet.

the 74gb raptor is supposedly better than the 36gb one by 30ish% or so, as i've heard. Also, the 74gb raptor doesnt perform much faster then the newer and faster 7200rpm hd's.

BS its faster then most drives on the market but not buy one for that, hell I just sold one so I would not buy it again any way = too small.

EBAY is a ripoff with computer stuff, too many n00b$ willing to pay mega bux for PC junk.

true about the 74gb one, but the 36gb one really isnt any faster than new 7200rpm hd's.

Nor is the 74gig one, honestly the performance increase you gain is not even close to being worth the money. Been there done that, save your money for something that's worth it. If you really want to get a quick hdd that's also somewhat worth it get a higher capacity 7200rpm with 16mb of cache, that's pretty close in performance to the 74gig raptor supposedly, idk I didn't notice much of a difference if any with either. Good luck...

So says the guy using a SCSI drive...lol

If you want a Raptor, wait a bit longer because the 74gb Raptor is much faster 7 the price will drop to around $100 before you know it.

Be thankful you didn't get it, for that price it's crap.

Actually I hate to say it, for any price it's crap. I own one in my older machine and ughh...very loud and not as fast as you think it is.

I've seen those benchmarks and the 74GB model did ok.

Where are all the Raptor hating nubs saying its the slowest overpriced piece of junk out there?

If u care about access times and seek times the raptor are the fastest drives out there.

So if application load speed, and just a more responsive system is important to u they are worth a look.

but ya I would go with the 74GB one over the 36GB if u can afford it.

Don't forget about the 5 year warranty. That will come in handy. I have 2 36G and have been pleased with them for the last 2 years (that sounds dirty, doesn't it) :)

First off I am not a n00b, by your spelling of the word n00b, I think you are one yourself.

Second off I too have seen the benchmarks and I also own a 36GB in my old machine, and I have a 74GB which I move from my old machine to my new build. I hate to tell you but the Raptor is just not a good choice now for the cost. The 36GB model, which was what the OP was looking at, really sucks, look at the benchmarks for the 36GB model then call me a n00b for saying it sucks!!!! The 74 GB model is a very fast drive with a very loud db rating, I would have to say for the money the Raptor's are just a waste right now, the newer drives out right now are almost as fast if not faster in some areas.

Try some Canadian forums like this one.

I sold a 36GB Raptor for $100 Canadian shipped on that forum a couple months ago.

Actually, last week Outpost/Fry's was selling the 36gb Raptor for $60 AR. This week, you can pick up a 74gb Raptor for $130 AR.
