Used Pontiac Vibe price.

My girlfriend is looking at getting a used hatchback, something that has decent mpg and room enough for a great dane in the back with the seat folded down.

She found an 05 vibe with about 21k miles, the dealer is asking 16.6k for it.

"Features: Cloth interior, Front airbags, Power sunroof, Monotone appearance package, Front bucket seats, Rear split bench seat, Air conditioning, Remote keyless entry, Power door locks, Power windows, Power mirrors, Cruise control, Tilt steering wheel, Rear defroster, Intermittent wipers, Rear wiper, Liftgate, Power steering, Antilock brakes, Tire pressure monitor, Console, Cupholders, Reading lamps, Roof rack, Aluminum wheels, AM/FM stereo with 6 disc CD changer, Premium audio system, Tachometer, Daytime running lamps "

My girlfriend looked at it and says

"It has the Preferred Package, the Sun and Sound Package, and Sports Package
- I think it also has the Security Package as well, but I'm not for certian.

Interior is like new - never smoked in - Exterior is in excellent shape -
one bauble in the windshield which will be fixed for free, and two small
nicks in the rear bumper which dad said was a good sign because it meant the
car hadn't been gone over in a body shop"

They're offering her 5200 on her trade in, a 00' Ford Mustang v6.

I'm trying to get her to look at financing through the bank, to see if they can beat the dealers financing. She has good credit so no problem there.

According to KBB.com for a retail used sale

"Vehicle Condition Ratings Check Vehicle Title History Excellent
$16,245

"Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. This vehicle has never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. The vehicle has a clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. The engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. The vehicle also has complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.

Blue Book Retail Value Assumes Excellent ConditionThis value assumes the vehicle has received the cosmetic and/or mechanical reconditioning needed to qualify it as 'Excellent'. This is not a transaction value; it is representative of a dealer?s asking price and the starting point for negotiation. "

you can probably get a new one for that price.

edit, use edmunds to see what the going rate is for a new one. Also find out if there is factory cash back or special financing, you don't get either of those on a used car.

is 16.6 the price written on the window?

tell her to write 14.6 on a her business card and tell them to call her when they want to sell it for that.

edit: which engine does it have?

the basic engine. Just found out that her dad has been working the deal, he's used the dealership already. Sounds like he has it pretty much set up, but I'm thinking about butting in and trying to get a better deal. They are offering 5200 on her trade in, which is a little higher than most places, but that probaable accounts for the higher price.

does sound kinda high.. i saw a CL ad for a clean title 2005 vibe for $5k.. lady was leaving the country and it didn't seem like a bad deal..

well if you wnat a carfax report, PM me the VIN#

if its the basic engine that sounds like a ripoff price. obviously they're padding the trade with the extra money from the 16.6.

The answer is within you.

Light a candle, clear your mind, gaze into the middle distance, and ask yourself:

"Am I getting a good Vibe here?" 😉

My first thought as well. The MSRP on new Vibes starts under $16k.

And you don't have to be a genius to haggle down the price on a GM...
