Wherehouse went bankrupt and is shutting down at least some of their stores. The two near me are selling all their rental DVDs for $9.95. Way better selection than the standard Blockbuster previewed sale section.

All the Wherehouse around my area in SoCal have been shutdown for some time now. Looked like what were boxing everything up and shipping it to another store when I visited.

The 2 stores near me both say "NO MORE RENTALS". They're selling the entire stock of DVDs for $9.95 a pop.

Chapter 11. 120 stores to close. 250 to remain open at least as of 21 Jan.

"Torrance, Calif. ? January 21, 2003 ? Wherehouse Entertainment, Inc. announced today that in order to facilitate its capital restructuring initiatives and streamline its operations, Wherehouse and its subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. Since the installation of the Company?s current senior management team in June 2002, a comprehensive review of all operations including the corporate headquarters has been underway. As part of its program to improve its competitiveness and profitability, Wherehouse recently closed 30 stores and expects to close an additional 120 unprofitable or underperforming stores within the next several months. Wherehouse expects that its remaining approximately 250 stores will form a solid basis for a return to profitability. These stores will continue to operate as normal."

went today since it was on the way after picking up my sis from school . . . nothing good is really left that I couldn't have gotten from the 5 for $25 columbia house deal :)

stupid thing was the "used" DVD's were like $15+ with 20% and the "rentals" were $9.99 . . .

they also had xxx titles too but I didn't take a look since I was with my little sister.

Hopefully they will have a big 50% off or something on the "regular" stuff soon.
