Used Disk Space Doesn't Add Up

Lifer

my lappie has an 80 GB hard drive which 74.5 GB is usuable. If I add up the size of all the folders on the C: drive (only 1 partition and the VIEW FOLDERS option is set to display HIDDEN FOLDERS/FILES), it comes up to around 31 GB.

74.5 GB Total - 31 GB Used = 43.5 Available

However, the properties for my Hard drive state I only have 40.2 available. where is the other 3.3 GB?

My Recycle Bin is empty (i don't use Norton, so my recycle bin files are not protected)...I have seen this happen on some my desktop drives as well. If I reformat the partition, the available space totals will then appear with the correct totals...

Am I missing something?

Pagefile shows up as a hidden file. If he's selected all hidden files as well then it should be included.
How abotu Recycle Bin?
