I'm trying to find a German/European web site that is similar to www.autotrader.com or www.carmax.com. Anyone know if such a site exists?

I'm trying to find pricing info on 1992-1999 Euro-spec BMW M3s, specifically those with the 340hp engine and 6-speed transmission. I'll have it shipped to the States if necessary.

Keep in mind the fact that you will have to convert it to US specs. That includes: new headlamps, bumbers, emissions and speedometer and engineering studies to prove everything is kosher. It isn't necessarily a cake walk.

My GF's father ran a grey market company that did this exact thing for a while. There are probably still companies that do it.

Hmmm...good point...what about someone who has a US-Spec M3 with the Euro engine and tranny?

Here is how the grey market works.

You buy the German spec car. You pay to have it converted. You import it to the US on your one time "exemption" (I forget the details, but I think you get a one time free pass on import duties or taxes or something like that).

I don't know about now, but 10 years ago, you could do all this and buy a 2 year old german car and even after all of the above expenses save thousands of dollars.
