Used car transfer question

I have the title. I am selling my car to someone today. What happens with teh lisence plates? Do I take my old ones off? Does the legal transfer of ownership occur at the DMV?
 
Ownership changes at the DMV but can be done without both being present. The buyer will have to supply his/her own plates. In Canada plates are non-trasnferable.

You own plates and car separately.
