Hello!

I am looking at buying this for my wife for Valentines Day:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16834230103

I just fell into ~$700 cash and my wife has been begging for a laptop that can play games for years and years now...

Seller is asking $700, I can probably negotiate him down a little, is this a good buy?

Looks like it's on par with the $1300 laptops of today, if not a bit better...

Opinions? I trust you guys to know more about this than me!!

Thanks!

It all depends on how it was used by the seller. That can be a crapshoot. Such buys usually have no warranty. If the "used" item is a refurb from a dealer, then the risk is less.

If you have a friend who is knowledgeable, the buy could be predicated on his/her examination and condition.

Good thing, somebody got screwed hard on that one. Be glad it wasn't you.
At best that thing is worth $400. Intel's integrated HD5200 competes with that GPU, and just about any DGPU like the 830M is faster. Combined with the fact that its a giant, heavy, hot, power sucking, used unit, with an older much slower CPU as well (30-50%).

You can get a new smaller lighter laptop (15.6") that's twice as fast (at gaming) around $700 (4700MQ + 850/860M). There's been a few threads for recommendations near that price, go take a look.

Just ran into a sale on a budget gaming unit under $500. It's decidedly low end, but for gaming performance it should be in the same ballpark as that old used Asus. I'm just putting this out there, up to you to decide. There are certainly better units for the $600-700 you were originally looking at though.
